If you’re an OB/GYN or women’s health provider, you’ve heard this question—or some variation—dozens of times. Your patients are bombarded with testimonials, before-and-after photos, and influencer endorsements claiming ketogenic diets are the answer to PCOS. Meanwhile, you’re left wondering: What does the actual science say?
A comprehensive scoping review published in September 2025 in the journal Nutrients provides some clarity. Researchers from George Fox University analyzed eight clinical studies involving women with PCOS who adopted various ketogenic protocols, ranging from 45 days to 12 weeks.
The findings are compelling—but they also come with crucial caveats every clinician needs to understand before counseling patients.

The PCOS-Insulin Resistance Connection: A Quick Refresher
